Staying informed about current events is essential for understanding potential risks and strengthening preparedness in society. While global developments matter, events in our local and neighboring regions often have more immediate consequences. This project places particular attention on developments across the Nordic region — Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Norway — with a focus on situational awareness relevant to crisis preparedness, healthcare, and societal resilience.
The initiative is inspired by professional dialogue and insights connected to the National Knowledge Centre in Disaster Medicine in Sweden , as well as by a broader interest in how structured information monitoring can support resilient communities and informed decision-making.
The platform collects news from multiple Nordic sources and applies AI-assisted relevance filtering and translation. Using locally executed large language model (LLM) workflows, the system identifies content related to safety, crisis preparedness, environmental developments, healthcare, accidents, weather events, and policy decisions that may influence regional resilience. Only filtered and translated content is published to the website.
The project demonstrates a practical and security-conscious application of AI. All AI processing is handled locally before structured results are transmitted to the hosted website. This architecture protects API credentials and keeps computational logic separate from the public-facing interface.
Developed as an independent project, the platform serves as a working prototype for how AI-supported monitoring tools could contribute to improved Nordic situational awareness and long-term contingency thinking. It remains under active development and is intended as a foundation for further refinement.
